We opened Uncommon in May of 1976 at 2210 Ave Q. We landed at that location because I was working (still in grad school) next door at a frame shop. It wasn't a great location but we were struggling and the price was right.  I was able to continue at the frame shop and my partner was able to run our new store single-handedly  with me next door just in case.  Fast forward 5 years, we bought the frame shop where I had worked, combined the 2 stores, and moved to 26th and Boston.

Several years later I lost my partner when she was 40 to cancer, so I ended up with Uncommon and (blessed) with her two children. Our lives and the store did well over the 37 years and I've landed in a great place as I turned 65 this year.  My wife and I are in shape to retire, but for many reasons I'm not ready to sit at home and watch TV.  When we sold the building, and while preparing for a huge closing sale, a few of  my great framing customers asked me why I didn't open a small frame shop?

That answered a big question.  What was I going to do when the store was gone? That's how I've landed at my final (I hope) location.  I think of it as my semi-retirement job where I'm doing what  I love to do (frame pictures) and do it on my terms.  It's small enough to be run by me with no help if I chose and big enough to do most any framing project.  If you need cards or gifts you'll have to go somewhere else, but if you need a great framing experience please visit me at my new location.  Dennis
